After parole they saw service in the Dakota War of 1862, then various posts until they saw service at Vicksburg and Arkansas. They were mustered in and out at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. The company lost 17 killed and 279 to disease. Musicians beat the march tempo and sounded the daily routine8,9
