John R. Barber married Rebecca Hartgrove, daughter of Ephraim Hartgrove and Rozetta Garrett, on 29 December 1831 at Stark County, Ohio.9,10,1,11
Charles Elmer Zanzig thinks that he remembers that the Barbers are connected somehow with the Diamond Match Co. Diamond was founded in Akron Ohio, and there are certainly Barbers involved with it.12
John R. Barber died on 12 January 1881 at Town of Plymouth, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA.4 He was buried at Maple Grove Cemetery, Town of Plymouth, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA.13
John's obituary was published in the Plymouth Reporter on 20 January 1881 at Plymouth, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA.5 His obituary states
"John R. Barber, whose death occurred on Wednesday the 12th inst. Mr. Barber was born in Stark Co., Ohio, and had attained his 71st year. The deceased, with his wife, who survives him, became a resident of the town and county in 1847, and his declining years were spent on the homestead that his own toil and efforts had wrought out and reclaimed from its natural wilderness. He was a brother of Joseph and James Barber, well-known citizens, whose farms are adjoining, and was the father of a large family of children, whom he lived to rear and see attain respectable positions in life. Mr. Wm. G. Barber, one of the oldest sons is now the prossesor [sic] of the homestead. The funeral obsequies occurred at the house Friday afternoon, Rev. Rindell, of this city, officiating."5
